- "It is easy to see from this concept machine that Terrazi also has a hand in development of space stations. Rumor has it that this is simply an extraterrestrial rover chassis with a powerful engine fitted..."
- ―Ridge Racer 6 description
The Terrazi Terrajin is Terrazi's Special Machine, featured in Ridge Racer 6 and Ridge Racer 7.
Overview[]
Conceptually, it succeeds the Terrazi Utopia, as both are rocket cars and both are classified as special machines. As opposed to the Utopia however, which is a land speed record car, the Terrajin appears to be a rocket-powered dragster, judging by the front wheels.
Performance-wise, for a special machine, the Terrajin is not too quick, both in terms of top speed and initial acceleration, but acceleration from a rocket start would allow it to take the early lead in races, often launching at 240km/h if done correctly. In terms of its handling, it is prone to losing a large amount of velocity when turning widely into corners, given its mass, length and soft suspension setup, which gives it an almost Dynamic-like drift type.
Its nitrous properties vary by game. In Ridge Racer 6, the Terrajin uses the same type of nitrous as all the other Special Machines, featuring up to three charges of Nitrous. Charging it under normal circumstances may seem almost the same as any other special machine would, where its only main advantage would be its boost duration, lasting nearly twice as long as a regular boost would. Unfortunately, it is hampered by a mediocre Ultimate Charge rate, and its boost does not provide as much horsepower to the car's engine as all the other Special Machines (only being able to boost at 249mph - 400km/h with the full Triple Nitrous, while others can go up to 256mph - 412km/h).
In Ridge Racer 7, however, the Terrajin now uses Extended Nitrous, and charges significantly quicker (with a somewhat decent Ultimate Charge rate, improved over the previous game), allowing it to use nitrous more frequently, but the same issue still persists; its boost power is still weak.
Of all the machines across the two games, the Terrazi Terrajin uses the least amount of gears, having a two-speed gearbox.
The Terrajin can be very difficult to drive, especially on narrow courses due to its immense length, width and heavy weight, a problem it shares with the Monstrous, and to an extent, its predecessor. However, the driver can use this length to their advantage. Turning the machine to one side of the road turns it into a roadblock, which can prevent oncoming machines from overtaking and in turn, collide with it and increase the Terrajin's speed, not to mention, charge its nitrous a little quicker.
Overall, the car would take an early advantage and try to boost for as long as it can, but that advantage is soon lost due to its drawbacks such as the lack of speed and control. Players can attempt to use the Terrajin if they are skilled enough, or are willing to take chances and risks in races.
The car also has unique animations for using nitrous. Using one shot of nitrous will open the flaps on the sides, while using all shots of nitrous will open all flaps, including that on the roof of the car, although this may be risky as it could potentially reduce visibility when set the camera is set to chase mode.
Trivia[]
- Like its predecessor, the Terrazi Utopia, the Terrajin is the only distinct rocket car in the Ridge Racer series; and its rocket thrusters tend to light up when mobile like a spaceship, and have a jet turbine-like sound. However, unlike the Utopia, the Terrajin, with its thrust engaged by pressing the accelerator button, there are no vapor trails coming out of the thrusters, unless nitrous is used.
- This special machine in RR6 and RR7 has the most prolonged ultimate charge out of any other special car; including the Monstrous.
- The windshield does not show a modeled cockpit. This could hint to either the Terrajin being unmanned, or that the window tint has been completely darkened.
- The name "Terrajin" could be a reference to Mokujin from the Tekken series.
- It may also be a clear nod to the surname of Terrazi's founder, which is Teraji.
