Tachometers are used in Ridge Racer to show the current vehicle's engine RPM. It is displayed on the HUD, along with a digital speedometer displaying speed in either miles per hour (MPH) - imperial units, or kilometers per hour (KPH/KM/H) - metric units.

The design of the tachometer varies from game-to-game, but some games such as Rage Racer, Ridge Racer V, Ridge Racer (PSP), Ridge Racer 2 (PSP), Ridge Racer 6, and Ridge Racer 7 have HUD tachometers that are unique to each vehicle.
Trivia[]
- The Monstrous is the only car in the series that uses an analogue speedometer and is also reactive whenever nitrous is used.
- In main titles starting with Ridge Racer V, where vehicle interiors are fully modeled, the interior's dashboard textures match the HUD tachometer, which is a neat bit of attention to detail. The interior's dashboard also lights up when the vehicle has its lights on (whether racing at night or in a tunnel). Typically, the HUD tachometer also has a backlit/night mode which is toggled under the same circumstances.
- Ridge Racer 6 is the first game where units can be manually changed. Previous games had their units determined by the game's region or language settings.
