The Lizard Detector is a car manufactured by Lizard, featured in Ridge Racer Type 4 and Ridge Racer 64.

Design and performance[]

The Detector features a boxy and low-slung design, reminiscent of the Vector M12 (albeit with a more angular and straight design) and the 1987-1992 Ferrari F40. Its styling is also noticeably comparable to Rivelta Solare, especially the fixed headlight variants used by the RT Solvalou cars in early games. It is powered by a (presumably mid-mounted) 3.0 liter V8 engine which gives it ample amounts of power to face its lower-end Stage 2 stablemates. Its biggest disadvantage, however, is the weight, as it's the heaviest car in the lower Stage 2 class. It also serves as the base model for the Lizard Colleague and Lizard Tamer.

The Lizard Detector also appears in Ridge Racer 64, as a car belonging to the Micro Mouse Mappy team, a team that in R4 canon used Age Solo vehicles instead. In the DS remake, the Luigi Racing car that replaced the Screamin' Eagle also appears to be a considerably upgraded Lizard Detector.

The following is a translated transcription of the car featured in the Japanese Ridge Racer Type 4 - Namco Official Guide Book R4:

A strong machine born from stock car racing.

The Detector seems to have a sturdy body.  Originally, it was a machine that made a name for itself in stock car races where people hit cars and compete for speed. It is a specification like an American car that it is not equipped with a precise mechanism such as DOHC only from races where it was required to be sturdy. However, this rugged machine was also surprising because it was tuned to the world of over 400 horsepower in the final round oval specification where the specs jumped surprisingly as it was customized and it was located relatively in front. The driving seat tells the midship style that is never like an American car.  Slides like a sturdy lump of iron. The divinity of the Detector's running is here.

Trivia[]

  • This car is one of 4 four cars featured in the introduction of R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, racing alongside the Age Dirigeant, Terrazi Troop and Assoluto Bisonte.
    • Additionally, The car is seen sporting the Micro Mouse Mappy livery, rather than the Dig Racing Team (The possible reason for this is the unsuccessful partnership between Lizard and D.R.T.). The car remained this way in both the HD renders and its limited edition 1:43 scale diecast model, until its final appearance in Ridge Racer 64.
  • The name of the car has the meaning of revelation or discovery.
  • This car has a texture error in the in-game model, where the headlights are masked in black (as opposed to the double dots with the frame in the same color as the body that is shown in the renders), and the design of the rear lights with three circles instead of two circles with rectangular corner indicators at the ends, also as depicted in the renders. Furthermore, its front end appears to be a little more elongated than normal.
    • The car also had a resemblance to the Lamborghini Diablo in its rendered version.
