The Danver Hijack is a truck manufactured by Lizard and later Danver. Debuted as Lizard model in Rage Racer, it appears under Danver name for the first time in Ridge Racer 2 as a special machine and a normal machine in Ridge Racer 6 and later.

Rage Racer[]

In Rage Racer, the truck debuts as Lizard Hijack, featuring a NASCAR truck style bodywork. Power comes from a 5.0 liter overhead valve V8 engine mated to a 5-speed transmission, with an optional supercharger kit available as a part of its class-up tune.

The Grade 5 specification has a larger, more powerful engine, which is now mounted in the bed, as opposed to the front of the truck. This probably serves to provide better weight distribution, consequently improving its dynamic behavior on the track.

Power comes courtesy from a selection of engines depending on its class, all of which are mated to a 5-speed transmission. It's the best handling vehicle in Class 4 of Rage Racer.

Grade Power Gear Engine Top Speed (MT) Price (eg)
4 340 ps 5 5,000cc V8 OHV 216 km/h 136,700
5 445 ps 5 5,000cc V8 OHV Supercharged 244 km/h 577,000

Ridge Racer 2 (PSP)[]

"The HIJACK can handle all kinds of terrain. A genuine sports truck that has competed in many drag races in the US, it is equipped with a 6-litre V10 engine and a race-spec bodykit. A true next-generation monster truck."
―Ridge Racer 2 (PSP) machine profile.

The Hijack only appears as a special machine in Ridge Racer 2 (PSP). The Hijack is unlocked after the Hijack tour, across Shuttleloop Highway in both forward and reverse versions, is completed.

Appearance[]

The Hijack is a big oversized super truck built by Danver, powered by a 6.0 litre V10. It features quite an exotically placed exhaust, mounted on its bed, and sports number 21. The machine's color is white, with blue accent across the machine.

The Danver Hijack, especially since it's powered by a V10, is most likely based off of the 2004-2006 Dodge Ram SRT-10, which was a limited sport pick-up truck from Dodge that was powered by the Dodge Viper's V10 engine.

Performance[]

Despite its high top speed, being the second fastest machine in the "Special 1" category at 382 km/h, it has relatively weak acceleration and will require skillful control to master, as even with the lightest inputs, the car will drift rather violently and swing itself with an extreme angle. This is the fastest iteration of the Hijack. While it has a lower top speed than some Danver machines such as the Danver Spectra. Its nitrous top speed makes it the fastest Danver machine ever made.

Ridge Racer 6[]

Class 4 Hijack in RR6.

"The HIJACK was developed by DANVER with the concept in mind of being able to "conquer any and all terrain". The HIJACK accomplishes this feat with flying colors, and does it with breathtaking comfort. Riding in it feels like going for a cruise in a luxury sedan. All internals, including the engine and suspension, were redesigned from the ground up, making this a new breed of truck."
―In-game description

"A more powerful HIJACK fitted with a 6-liter V10 engine and a race-spec bodykit. It produces tremendous amounts of torque, and behaves like a rampaging bronco. A true monster."
―In-game description

The Hijack reappeared in Ridge Racer 6 as Class 2 and Class 4 machine. It roughly resembles the Chevrolet SSR, or perhaps the Dodge Ram SRT-10, as both cars are round-shaped pickup trucks equipped with big and powerful engines. The regular version of the car features active aerodynamics, unusual for a pick-up truck, while the Class 4 version of the car features a similar wide body kit, a large rear wing, a large air scoop on the hood and a bed-mounted exhaust from its Ridge Racer 2 (PSP) model.

Specifications[]

  • Engine system: V8
  • Engine displacement: 5,000 cc
  • Drive system: FR
  • Dimensions (mm): l/w/h 4971/2039/1595
  • Top speed: 248 km/h
  • Drift Type: Dynamic

On the track it has mediocre acceleration and top speed compared to other machines in the same class. It is also the most difficult machine to race in as it is extremely sensitive to steering and can drift violently with a single nudge. However, It has the highest Ultimate Charge rate of its class. If driven by the hands of a skilled driver, the cons of its base top speed will be overshadowed by this car's ability to spam its nitrous more quickly than any other car.

Ridge Racer 7[]

"The Hijack has successfully blown away its pickup truck image to become one of the most popular sports trucks. This durable, easy to customize, low price machine can run on any surfance, on or off the road, and now competes in many race events. A groundbreaking race machine."

A heavily customized Hijack in Ridge Racer 7

The Hijack returned in Ridge Racer 7, now a Category 2 machine. A special Complete Machine variant is also obtainable by winning the Hijack Duel, similar in appearance to the Class 4 Hijack in the previous game.

In terms of performance, this machine excels in Ultimate Charge. Acceleration performance is not so good, but can be offset with Zolgear tuning kits. Its top speed is just as good as any machine equipped with Druaga engine. For courses focused on top speed, Drauga engine is also a good choice for the Hijack.

Ridge Racer 3D[]

"Danver's HJ6000 Type-S stands apart as a high-performance machine with it's striking truck style. It excels in acceleration performance above other Dynamic machines." ~Ridge Racer 3D description.

In Ridge Racer 3D, the Hijack was renamed the HJ6000, presumably signifying that the engine displacement was increased from 5,000 cc to 6,000 cc, although the exterior styling remains the same as before. The HJ6000 retains the same Dynamic-type handling, meaning players will expect the car to be wildly swung around corners and thus requires a lot of control to regain grip.

It first appears in Category 3, making it one of the few vehicles in the game to lack a Category 4 variant. It has a Dynamic drift type, and boasts a higher top speed than many of it's competitors, even outclassing that of the Assoluto Fatalita, however it is countered by the vehicle's gigantic size and weight balance. It will require sharper drifting due to this, causing more speed to be lost in turns that with it's competition. Despite this, it is a solid contender in all three Categories it is present in, even being driven by the frontrunning CPU driver Sandra in Category 1 events. Its Category 2 and Category 1 variants adopt the exterior styling of the Class 4 variant from Ridge Racer 6.

Ridge Racer Slipstream[]

The HJ6000 name is also used in this game, with appearance taken from Ridge Racer 7 version of the truck.

Trivia[]

  • This is one of three vehicles in the series to feature active aerodynamics, the other being the Soldat Raggio and Danver Bayonet.
  • The large hot-rod styled hood scoop, which is featured on many iterations of Hijack throughout many games, implies either a supercharger or a carburetor with a very high air flow (CFM), similar to the ones used in the Pro Stock dragsters. In Ridge Racer 3D, the description of the HJ6000's racing version (a rebranded Hijack) clearly states that it is indeed, supercharged.
  • Furthermore, as drag racing is mentioned in the Hijack's description in Ridge Racers 2, it may imply that the racing versions of the Hijack were originally built as drag racing truck (as opposed to the racing variants of every other car in the games being based on GT racing or touring cars). However, the wheelbase of the Hijack is too even to resemble a drag racing truck, and would likely resemble that of a Dakar Rally pick-up truck from the early 2000s instead.
  • It is likely possible that besides the Bayonet, Danver acquired the rights and assets of these models during Lizard's liquidation.
  • The car's name is a possible double-meaning pun, as "Hijack" would be a part of a kidnapping involving a vehicle (and generally, SUVs and pickup trucks are often targeted by kidnappers to pick up people), and the car has a bucket. Furthermore, the prefix "Hi" may be a reference to the word "High", which possibly could be a line of high-performance vehicles from Danver like the Danver Hi-Night, as well as a reference to the Toyota Hilux, a popular pickup truck from the United States.
  • The design of the car (especially the headlights) also resembles the GMC Terra4 Concept 2002.
  • On RR7, the Dragon Saber wing option makes the Hijack look like a double cab pickup.
